State Capital Group 2008 Annual Meeting
October 2-4, 2008 ~ San Francisco, CA



The State Capital Group is heading to San Francisco!

Don't miss the 2008 Annual Meeting, filled with substantive meeting sessions that will provide insight and strategies for successfully navigating current legal issues, as well as plenty of networking opportunities and social activities to keep you in touch with your State Capital Group friends and colleagues from around the world.

San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom will kickoff the meeting on Thursday afternoon with welcoming remarks to the attendees.  The opening session, "Resort/Hospitality Development in the Current Financial Crisis," featuring Steve Gold, Managing Director of Hotel Financial Strategies, Frank Finneran, CEO of Frank K. Finneran & Company, and Mark Durliat, CEO and Developer of Grace Bay Club will begin at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. The session will discuss legal issues and financial strategies relating to the acquisition and development of these properties in today's economic and regulatory environment.

On Thursday night, attendees will gather for a Welcome Reception hosted by the State Capital Group followed by Dutch-Treat dinners at local area restaurants.  We have also arranged special networking dinners for Bankruptcy Practitioners and Real Estate attorneys; pre-registration and pre-payment for the networking dinners is required.

Friday morning begins with a marketing/business development session entitled "Inside the Client's Mind," with Laura Meherg and Nat Slavin, Founders of Wicker Park Group. Other sessions for Friday morning include, "Representing Insolvent and Failing Businesses," featuring Sandra Schirmang, Senior Director of Credit for Kraft Foods Inc. and Judy Thompson of Poyner & Spruill LLP; "Patient Safety and Medical Errors," with Larry Foust, Senior Vice President and General Counsel of Childrens Hospital of Los Angeles; "Redeveloping Urban Environments," featuring Ian Gillis, Principal of Urban Community Partners LLC and Joe Coomes of McDonough Holland & Allen PC; and "Issues that Keep Lenders Up at Night," with Leonard Kam, Vice President and Loan Team Manager of Wells Fargo Home Mortgage, Inc., Arthur Perkins, Deloitte Financial Advisory Services LLP, and Laurel Davis of Fennemore Craig, P.C.;

Friday afternoon sessions will include "Corporate Transactions:  A View from the Inside", with Dick Stuyfzand, Legal Director of Orangina Group and Schweppes International Limited; "Sustainable Development: Green Buildings and Infrastructure," featuring Claire Bonham-Carter, Director of Sustainability of EDAW and John Walser, Director of Policy and Education of the Northern California U.S. Green Building Council; "HR in the International Airline Industry," featuring Frances Fiorillo, Senior Vice President of People and In-Flight Services of Virgin America; "Commodities, Capex and the Environment:  A Looming Cost Recovery Problem for Utilities," with David W. Sosa, Vice President of the Analysis Group, and "International Construction Arbitration," featuring Thomas J. Stipanowich, Academic Director, Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution and Professor of Law, Pepperdine University School of Law and Michelle Leetham, Director of Litigation, Bechtel.

Following the Friday afternoon session, attendees will gather for the ever-popular Roll Call of the States, Provinces and Countries and then head to historic San Francisco City Hall for an elegant dinner in one of San Francisco's most beautiful buildings.

Saturday's State Government Relations session will include a presentation on "Legislative Tracking," with Legicrawler's Beckie Krantz, CEO and Dennis Krantz, President
. The meeting will adjourn with a buffet lunch at the hotel.

The 2008 Western Regional Meeting will be held October 1-2, in San Francisco, California, preceding the 2008 Annual Meeting at the same site.
